Pirate Ship Sugar Cookies

Pirate ship cookieSubmitted by Laura Sams

This is a sugar cookie recipe that my family uses around the holidays.  I adapted it by cutting my own generic pirate ship shape and decorating with white and chocolate frosting.  This is a fun cookie to make with children.

2 1/2 cups sifted flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup margarine

1 1/4 cup sugar

1 egg

2 teaspoons vanilla

Beat the sugar, margarine and egg together until creamy.  Blend in vanilla.  Then stir in flour and salt.  Chill the dough for about an hour.  When the dough is chilled, you can roll it onto a lightly floured surface until the dough is about 1/2 inch thick.  Cut a boat or pirate ship shape from the dough.  Put the pirate ships onto a cookie sheet.  Bake at 350 degrees for 7 minutes.  Be sure you don't overbake!  The cookies will harden a bit after taking them out of the oven.  Have fun decorating!
